Chance Hessel, LCSW
He/him
Hi, I’m Chance. I’m a queer and trans therapist who cares deeply about creating a safe therapeutic space where each person feels seen, celebrated, and supported. I understand how lonely and confusing life feels when shame or silence takes over. My own experiences with identity and belonging shape the warmth and honesty I bring into every conversation.

I’ve moved through trauma, rupture and repair in my relationships, and the ongoing stress of caregiving. Caregiving brings love, fear, exhaustion, and a slow wave of anticipatory grief long before any final goodbye. These experiences showed me how heavy daily life becomes and how much harder routines and the little things feel under that weight. They also reinforced my belief that everyone deserves a place where thoughts and feelings receive care rather than quick fixes or judgment.

Since 2015, I’ve had the honor of working with LGBTQIA+ humans, neurodivergent folks, and those navigating trauma, systemic oppression, grief, and life changes. My work with queer and trans people holds a special place in my heart. Our lives deserve dignity, celebration, humor, and joy, both in therapy and beyond. I welcome anyone who wants a warm and affirming space to feel grounded, valued, and supported while exploring their story. I feel privileged to walk beside clients as they move toward greater self-understanding and a life that reflects who they are.

My approach draws from ACT, DBT, and IFS, as well as trauma-informed, gender-affirming, and anti-oppressive care. I work directly and collaboratively, with curiosity, care, and a sense of humanity in each session. You decide the pace, the focus, and the topics that feel safe to explore based on your readiness. Together, we build an honest and trustworthy therapeutic relationship and a space centered on your goals.
Away from work, I spend time with my partner and my dog, Wanda, a fully HIPAA-compliant notetaker who works for snacks and never breaks confidentiality!
